Diction

The authors use of diction is extreme, which enhances the somber tone of Antigone.  The author uses the word inexhaustible to show how difficult mankinds life can be.  The author also uses diction such as dim water, the sultry shoulder, winter rains, and wind of death to create the somber tone of  Ode 1.  Each use of diction creates the sad and gloomy feeling for the reader.  Although, these statements are in praise of mankind, the use of diction shows a cautionary tone, which once again leads to a somber tone.
